Resumo

The Youth and Adults Education (YAE) is a mode of basic education for people who did not have access or do not finish elementary and middle school at the appropriate age and aims to prepare students for satisfactory performance in the labor market and continuity in future studies. This study aims to investigate whether the principles of the Youth and Adult Education are being consolidated into the city of Zona da Mata ,Minas Gerais, Brazil. Methodologically is research field conducted through semi-structured pilot questionnaire. The sample consisted of 19 students from the EJA and frequent enrolled in the eighth grade of elementary school with an average age of 22.9 years (SD 11.2; 15 MIN; MAX 53). There prevalence of persons under age 20 (73%), which may connote change in the conception of adult education for the elderly in addition, only 50% work. The reasons with the highest prevalence, which led to enrollment in adult education were personal interests and desire to join in Higher Education (40%). All reported that the school promotes benefits to your daily life and the conditions of operation of the educational institution ie materials teachers and physical power structure meet your needs (84.2%). Given the above, it can be seen that the profile of students clash with the social concept that has EJA education for the elderly, so it is necessary that teachers rethink their practice, content and evaluation tools.
